Officer pulls student over for speeding, cites for marijuana Student Calvin Burke, 18, was cited Sept. 27 for possession of a controlled substance and failure to use a turn signal. An officer was near Donaghey Avenue and Robins Street at 3:38 a.m. when he noticed a gray Honda Accord traveling south on Donaghey at about 45 mph. The vehicle turned left onto Dave Ward without signaling. The officer pulled the driver over and could smell burnt marijuana. When asked why his vehicle smelled like marijuana, Burke replied that a friend had been riding with him earlier and had been smoking but that there wasn't any more marijuana in the vehicle. Seeing an unwrapped cigar and a cup full of cigar tobacco in the cup holder, the officer had Burke get out of his vehicle to conduct a probable-cause search. The officer found a razor knife and bag of marijuana in a storage area on the roof. Burke was then arrested and taken to the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office. He would not name who else had been smoking with him that day. Student argues with officer, cited for drug possession Student Evan Jacobs, 20, was arrested Oct. 1 for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. An officer was patrolling the parking lot west of Reynolds Performance Hall at 2 a.m. when he noticed an unsecured bicycle leaning against a green truck. When he approached the truck, he noticed a slight odor of burnt marijuana. He then saw Jacobs reclining in the driver seat next to a pipe and a bag of what appeared to be marijuana. The officer knocked on the window, but Jacobs did not respond. The officer then stepped away from the door to read the student decal number on the truck and noticed Jacobs moving around. The officer went back to knock on the window again and saw that the marijuana and pipe were gone. Jacobs asked what the officer wanted, swore and said he didn't have anything. Jacobs began pulling things out of his center console and threw them on the seat. The officer told Jacobs he had seen what appeared to be marijuana and a pipe on the console. Jacobs said, "Well, do you see it now? No. I don't have anything." The officer searched Jacobs and the truck and found the pipe and bag of marijuana underneath the cup holder compartment. Jacobs was taken into custody, transported to UCAPD for photo documentation and processing and then transported to the Faulkner County Detention Center. Officer sees students with bowl of marijuana stems and seeds Student Murphey Southern, 19, was arrested Sept. 25 for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. An officer was walking through the Nature Reserve south of the HPER Center when he observed two males smoking out of a glass bowl. The officer could smell burnt marijuana. He approached the two males and identified himself as an officer. One of the males, identified as Southern, placed something in his pocket. The officer asked where the smell was coming from, and both said they did not know. The officer saw marijuana seeds and stems on the bench they were sitting on. Southern then admitted that they had been smoking marijuana but that both the drugs and the bowl belonged to him. He pulled out a bag of marijuana stems and seeds from his pocket along with the bowl. Southern was placed under arrest and transported to UCAPD. Officer cites passenger in car for possession of alcohol Student Marques McElroy, 18 was cited Sept. 25 for minor in possession of alcohol. An officer was on bike patrol near the center of campus at 3:40 p.m. when he heard loud music coming from a green sedan on Emma Rasor Drive. He followed the vehicle and motioned for the driver to pull over on Marion Ross Avenue. McElroy, the passenger, had a cup of alcohol and had red eyes. McElroy was arrested and issued a minor in possession of alcohol citation.
